Sweet Jesus. It looks like we at Scenery Chewer have somehow been blessed/burdened with what is now a regular night at 93 Feet East. The last Tuesday of every month. I have no idea how I allowed this to happen, as my brain is already straining at the thought of giving you lucky bears an amazing night of music EVERY month from now on for the rest of my life.

Thankfully, the first regular night is off to a bloody good start, with a headlining slot from Clip Stamp Fold (whose bassist has long been doing our flyers for us, so this is our way of saying thank you) and Black Daniel (who promise to be mighty). Also, returning are old favourites in new threads, Calling Cairo, and the elusive, tender and tired, Hoshal Patrick.

BCBG will be on DJ duties.

Come along. Its free.

Although their name is sourced from the international design project, this London four-piece have little in common with it aside from three quarters of the band being designers themselves. Sitting between Bloc Party and Joy Division and being described as 'indie' and 'post-punk', amongst other things, the band have been steadily plying their trade around England's capital since early 2009, including a jam-packed headline act at the Notting Hill Arts Club and as well as many other great gigs at venues such as The Good Ship, 333 Mother Bar, The Bull & Gate and Buffalo Bar.

When it doesn’t have 5 or 4, Black Daniel has 3 members. They are brothers Luke and Lamik2000 from London town and Craig Louis Higgins Jnr from New York via Cape Cod. Meeting for the first time in Manhattan through a “friend” on the dancefloor of a lower east side disco, they quickly discovered a mutual love of animal tranquilisers and long walks in the rain. Some would say forming a band seemed like the logical progression, but it took a tour of the states with the brothers masquerading as DJs and C.LH. jnr doing his own special brand of tour management before the inevitable finally happened. Sometimes something just feels right. This wasn’t one of those times but they did it anyway.

From that moment on its been a series of Japanese stage invasions, cow bell solos, bloodied microphones, blow up dolls, leather pant experiments, uncle Warrens trumpet, wigs, wood nymphs and general good times all the way. Black Daniel will be coming to a theatre near you soon…

The matter of his continual reappearance in the halls of history up to and including the present day is keeping biographers in business and keeping historians up at night. Rumour has it he is currently roaming the lanes of London, cleverly disguised as two young musicians and their laptop, singing songs about the sea, the cinema, and everything in between.

Another great Brighton band (clearly there’s something in the water there), Ice Black Birds were Radio 1’s Huw Stephen’s tip of the week at the start of January this year. They have already been hand picked by the likes of Golden Silvers, Joe Gideon and The Shark, Wave Machines, Goldhawks and We Have Band to support them on tour and played various venues across the country such as Concorde 2, Club NME and Proud Galleries amongst others.

Ice Black Birds’ quality lies in being able to create a song with catchy riffs that sound great on first hearing them and yet somehow mange to improve on subsequent listens.

A hand picked line up of musical performers and an esteemed jockey of discs spinning the hottest of wax will be taking to the stage.

Highlights promised are an adult size helping of rock noir from DEATHLINE, some sweet acoustic "riballadry" (Editor's note: What?!) courtesy of LIAM BUTLER, head-spining electronica featuring a bone fide string quartet and mystery guests from Welsh wunderkind CULPRIT 1, and to end the night some seriously freaky dancing sounds and audio visuals courtesy of cutting edge experimentalists POSTHUMAN and DIGITONAL.

Providing the musical flow throughout this very special evening will be an exclusive DJ set from Say Yes!, and a special appearance by the curator, London’s very own ‘Bon Chic Bon Genre’ (the hammer that knocks the nails in).

And so it begins.

The first Scenery Chewer event curated by someone else other than me sees the young Kimberly Liu stepping up to the plate and organising her first ever art show. It promises to be wild and exotic, with work being exhibited and sold over the course of the following week, so if you are feeling flush, get your wallet out, and buy someone something lush.

Or just come along to the launch party on November the 6th and get joyous! It will be at The Others in Stoke Newington (go here for a map - www.theothers.uk.com).

We have three musical debuts from three soon-to-be Scenery Chewer favourites.

Liam Butler will open proceedings with his heart-snapping lyrics and tender guitar, and, we hope, one or two Daniel Johnston covers, as well as his own gorgeous songs.

We at Scenery Chewer cordially invite you to embark on '…the life of kings'.

On Aug 27, 2009 at Vibe Bar, Old Truman Brewery, leave behind the toil and trouble of the city streets and escape up to where the air is infused with the majestic artistic talents of London’s little known but promising musicians and photographers.

Inspired by a quote from renowned journalist H.L Mencken and famously used in the final ever episode of The Wire, this musical performance and photography exhibition is all in the name of the fantastic charity Youth Music (www.youthmusic.org.uk), set up in 1999 to promote and support music-making opportunities for underprivileged children with the least access across the UK.

The night will be an original mixture of photographic art alongside performances from live bands and DJs, which will all be exhibited in the cosy confines upstairs at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane.

Featured photographic works will include:

Luke Kemp, Nick Boyd, Jessika Green, Talitha Robert, Kirsty Thornley, Tom Chudley, Anne Duffau, Pearl Marjorie Draps, Monika Magiera, May McNair, Simon Langford-Ely, and many more.

Named after the little seen but much loved film by Wes Anderson and starring Owen Wilson, 'Bottle Rocket', like the film of its namesake, will be a low budget but destined for cult status affair. People will speak of this night in hushed yet awed tones for years to come.

"We seek, for an evening, to revisit the notion of Earls Court as cultural battleground. This event takes inspiration from Peter Barry's book Poetry Wars: British Poetry of the 1970s and the Battle of Earls Court which uncovers the 'battle' at the National Poetry Society during the 1970s between radical and conservative factions. We at Scenery Chewer cordially invite you to join us in The Weather Underground.

Abandon the inclement climate of the city streets and escape up to where the air is infused with the fresh artistic talents of London’s little known but promising musicians and photographers. This art performance is all in the name of the fantastic charity Youth Music, set up in 1999 to promote and support music-making opportunities for underprivileged children with the least access across the UK.

The night will be an original mixture of photography art alongside performances from live bands and DJs, which will all be exhibited in the cosy confines upstairs at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane.

From the beginning, Scenery Chewer has endeavoured to be a non-profit making ‘Arts Appreciation Collective’; organising artistically exciting charity events to raise funds for worthy causes in a more transparent way. Another major objective of Scenery Chewer’s operation is to offer the opportunity for London’s talented but little known artists to exhibit their work.

“People, no matter how successful they are in their chosen art, all deserve an audience, and that is what I want this event to achieve. An audience allows an artist to gain feedback, to try things out, to experiment, and to grow,” says Tiru Thiruvilangam, creator of Scenery Chewer. “By putting on these Scenery Chewer events, I want people to realise that the London art and music scenes do not have to be insular and money-obsessed. They can be open, inclusive, embracing. I want my work to help create a scene of like-minded people who all attest to this vision.”

So, please, do join us for an evening of stirring, creative like-mindedness!
